hope academy
The Hope Academy projects aim to bring hope to young people through football. The program teaches team dynamics, life skills and Biblical principles as well as high quality football coaching. The Academy model is adaptable and can be used in different environments like prisons, schools, children homes and community organisations. Young people that come through the program have increased opportunity for employment and even get the chance to play professional football if they are good enough.
The three pillars of the Hope Academies are FAITH, FUTURE and FOOTBALL.
AIS South Africa would like to have 10 Academies established by 2012. Currently there are 4 Academies that are already established of which 2 are working directly within prisons.
The main activities of the Academies are:
- Soccer training and development of Academy members.
- Spiritual development of Academy members through bible teaching.
- Life Skills Programs including team dynamics, HIV & AIDS awareness, anger management, conflict resolution, first aid, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, smoking, correct behavior and attitude, personal hygiene, restorative justice, relationships, financial management, computer training, literacy and reading, health and diet.
- Church development.
- Counseling Academy members when needed.
