Mission Contacts

Throughout our travels, we have met many amazing people and have been hosted by them and well looked after during our stays. They have given us a glimpse into their world. Our schedule didn’t allow us to spend any more time with them, but we just wanted to have a section where we can highlight some of the work that is going on around Africa by dedicated and committed Christians. These are just ordinary people, but God is using them in great ways.

Senegal - Iain and Linda Williamson:
Our family (Cuthbert’s) and the Williamsons have always been close since the children grew up together and our lives always seem to cross paths. Iain and Linda have always helped us set up the AIS tours to West Africa and without them these tours would never have been able to happen. They work with WEC in Senegal and are primarily involved with overseeing short term workers who come to the field but with so much experience, they always get asked to take on more roles and responsibilities. They have a huge heart for young people and opened their home to us when we were there. Nothing is ever too much hassle for them and we’re so thankful for everything they have done. Please pray for them in their ministry and as they plan for the future and what they will do when they leave Senegal.

Senegal - Bourofaye Christian School:
BCS was my home (Rob’s) for several years as a kid. I have really only got good memories of my time there…well maybe one or 2 bad ones when I stepped out of line! I am thankful not only for the education I received but for the family setting which taught me so much and played a huge role in my upbringing. The school is always on the lookout for teachers, dorm parents and general helpers so if you want to support missionaries and make a huge impact on the kids at the school then I would fully recommend it. When I finished my A-levels, I went back to the school for a year to help out and would definitely encourage people to do this.

Senegal - Jack and Polly Wilson:
We had the pleasure of staying with these guys in Dakar. Having spent the last 13 years in YFC Bissau and building it up and acheiving so much success there, they have made the move to Dakar. Polly is a teacher at Dakar Acamdemy where their 2 kids attend but she is also a budding entrepreneur and does loads of work helping women to start their own businesses. One of her current projects is selling jellewery made by ladies in Bissau to people in developed countries, so if you are keen to sell some jellewery and help women in Africa make a living then drop her an email. Jack is a “Jack of all trades” and he is currently overseeing projects that are on going in Bissau, sussing out new opportunities in Dakar and organising the first TREC (Training Resourcing and Equiping Churches/Coaches) which we helped run in Dakar. He is now organising mini TREC’s around Senegal and looking at expanding sports ministry in Dakar. All this is impressive enough but their strength is their love for the Lord and ability to make so many friends and build relationships whether they are in Bissau/ Dakar or wherever.

Guinea Bissau - YFC Bissau:
Pastor Jose Agosto and Eugenia now head up YFC Bissau. Again we have close links with them as Eugenia used to live with us (Cuthbert’s) when we lived in Guinea Bissau. The centre reaches out to many young people around the city and some travel many miles to attend some of their courses and classes. Computer classes, English courses and Bible teaching are all offered to students and the centre continues to grow and impact many for Jesus. Pray for Jose Agosto and Eugenia as they head up the centre. They are keen to develop Sports Ministry and so we hope to work alongside with them in the next few years. Website: www.yfci.org

WEC Guinea Bissau: Having been born in Guinea Bissau myself and my parents being missionaries there, I definitely wanted to make sure we had a visit here. WEC have been in Guinea Bissau for many years and the growth of the local church is testmony to the work of so many missionaries over the years. We had a great time at the mission where we were treated to cold drinks (a luxury for us who drink luke warm water all the time) and chocolate cake! It was great to talk to those who have committed their lives to seeing the unreached reached in Guinea Bissau and especially to meet Lynne Bogle who is from NI and is involved in teaching English and using those opportunities to share her faith. Pray for Lynne and the rest of the WEC missionaries as they serve around the country. Website: www.wec-int.org/cms/fields/guinea-bissau

Benin - Mission Benin: Paul Lipsett is from Portadown and I was good friends with his brother Stephen in school. When we found out he was in Benin, we decided we would have to pay him a visit on our way through. It’s pretty cool to see someone from home and over the few days there we were able to help Paul get his Portadown accent back so hopefully it was a mutually beneficial time! Paul has spent time in the USA and France in training for mission and now finds himself as part of the Mission Benin team. They have set up a church and are involved in a lot of Bible teaching which is a huge need in Africa. Please pray for Paul and the rest of the team, Pastor Luigi and Isabel, Christine, Pastor Daniel and his wife and their newborn baby. They have a huge ministry as they seek to see people grow in faith and knowledge of the Bible and see God’s word transform their lives. We had a great few days with them when they opened their house to us and we got involved in some evangelism with them as well as playing a match with a local team and using the opportunity to share with them. Also pray for Isabel who has a heart to reach out to many ladies not only with the Word of God but in practical ways to show them God’s love for them. With many living in poverty, the challenge is to meet their physical needs alongside their spiritual needs. Website: www.ggwo.org & www.missionbenin.blogspot.com

Cameroon - SIL: We have met up with various SIL missionaries as we have travelled down through Africa. They are involved in Bible translation and making God’s word available to many in their own language. It’s an incredible job that they do and it means God’s word can be understood and come alive for people reading in their own mother tongue. Mary Endersby has been in Cameroon for 35 years and was an inspiration to us all as she told us of the work she has done. Again it’s great to see people from home who God has called to serve Him overseas. Website: www.sil.org/sil/

Cameroon - Rain Forest International School, Yaounde: In Yaounde, I was shown around the school which serves many missionaries and allows them to stay on the mission field longer knowing that their kids are getting a quality education. Home to around 100 students, the school will be moving this summer to a new site which will better serve their needs as they continue to grow. As with BCS, the school is always in need of teachers and there are many opportunities to serve. Website: www.rfis.org

Cameroon - Pastor Jean-Luc and Esther Pondi: I had never met Jean-Luc when we were put in touch with him through a mutual friend as we were cycling through Yaounde. I now count him as a true friend and look forward to working together in the future. The pastor of a church, Jean-Luc and his wife Esther and their 2 kids serve many in Yaounde and have a heart to reach out to many more. They are responsible for an orphanage and plans are underway for a medical centre in the city as well. As a result of our visit and an introduction to Sports Ministry, they are now keen to add this to the work of their church and encourage this right across Cameroon. This may be the start of AIS Cameroon! Please pray for them in their ongoing work. They were a real blessing to us while in Yaounde and not only looked after us but challenged us spiritually in our walk with the Lord. We spent many hours (late into the night) talking about spiritual warfare and were inspired by his knowledge of the Bible and how that impacts his daily life. Website:
